Five for Friday - Feb. 13, 2015

This has been a very busy week for me at school so I have plenty of pictures to share. Without further ado here are my five photos from this week:

This week during one of my Daily 5 rotations, we worked on stretching out CVC words and then deciding if they were real or silly CVC words. My kinders LOVED this activity! It is a part of my Lots of Love unit in my TpT store. 

This week our kindergarten team made a flipchart of Valentine sentences for our kinders to correct. This was a great activity for my kinders and they love finding my mistakes!

This week we went on a quick field trip to our local dentist office. We do this every year with our kindergarten classes and it helps them understand that the dentist office is not a scary place at all. Plus they get to see all the cool tools the dentist and hygienist use when they clean teeth. 

Today in honor of Valentine's Day, we graphed the candy hearts. My kinders love this activity every year and they did such a good job. Their favorite part is always eating the candy hearts when they are done!

These were the valentines I made for my class this year. I thought they turned out so cute. I got the idea from Pinterest and then made my own cards to go on the bubbles. I got the bubbles 8 in a pack at the Dollar Tree.

Lots of Love unit

I had a wonderful Christmas break and I hope you did too. I enjoyed spending lots of time with my sweet Macy and catching up on some things around my house. Macy loved everything about Christmas from the lights to the pretty paper and bows. I will post some pictures of her soon.

During the Christmas break, I also began working on my newest unit called Lots of Love. This is my Valentine's unit and it is full of fun activities and games for your kinders.

Writing Wednesday: Who Do You Love?

Who do you love? Everytime I read my kinders' writing from today I can't help but think about this song! Since this is the week before Valentines Day we have been talking about why Valentines day is important and who we celebrate on Valentines Day.

Today my kinders wrote about who they loved and why. It was interesting to see their reasoning. Here are just a few of their final products:

I love my dad because he is nice to me.

I love my mom because her (she) colors.

I love my mom because she cooks me dinner.

I remade this sheet so that it can be photocopied and have uploaded it as a Google Doc if you would like a copy of it to use tomorrow or next Valentines Day.

I am love my wonderful husband. I am so blessed to have him in my life. He loves me for all my quirks and always encourages me to do the things I dream of.

 

I am loving this little miracle that is growing inside me right now. I can't wait to meet him or her in June. I am so excited to be expanding our little family to include a little one. Soon we will be a family of 3!

 

I love being a kindergarten teacher. I love my kinders and all their stories. They always brighten my day and keep me smiling. It is amazing to see the progress they make from the beginning of the school year until the end of the school year.

 

I love blogging and getting great ideas from other teachers. You all keep me smiling and help me be a better teacher for my kinders because I get such great ideas from you.

 

I love TpT. I am constantly making new things for my classroom and I can share them or sell them through TpT. It is amazing to think that materials I create are being used in other teachers' classrooms all over. It makes me smile!

 
 

I haven't really created many Valentines activities on TpT but I have posted my February math journal prompts. They are $3.00 and there are 15 prompts in all. Each prompt is aligned to a Common Core standard and it is printed at the bottom of the prompt.

Loving Valentine's Day!

First let me say a great big THANK YOU! I had a final donation to my Donors Choose project - "Books Within Our Reach" to complete it. I am so excited and can't wait to get our new bookshelf in our reading center!

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays so I decided to share some more activities with you.

Valentine's Day Counting Sheet

I created this counting sheet to use with my kiddos. I still have quite a few kids that can not count up to 20 objects and some that can count up to 20 but don't know how to write the correct numeral to correspond with the amount counted.

Valentine's Day Syllable Sort

I created this game to have my kinderkids practice sorting words by syllables. They are still having some difficulty with this standard and playing a game always interests them. I printed the game on cardstock and cut apart before laminating the pieces.

Sight Word Concentration Game

I made this game to use during our small group rotations. The kids have to make a match of two sight words and be able to read them. This really helps them learn their sight words.
