This week and next week, I am working with my kinders on the theme of winter. It has been difficult to teach about winter this week since we have had temperatures here in SC of 70+ degrees. It has felt nice to be outside but definitely not winter weather. In SC, we rarely ever get snow, but I love teaching about winter.
One of the activities I have done this week in my small groups was a snowflake syllable sort. This was a good way to review syllables with my kiddos. Once everyone got a chance to use the activity, I am putting it in a literacy station for next week. I am putting this sort on TpT if you would like to download it for free.

Oceans of Fun
Since we still have 12 more school days, we are beginning our ocean unit so I wanted to share some of the activities I am planning to use during this unit. Maybe you can use some of them too!
If you download any of these activities, I would love for you to leave me a comment. They always put a smile on my face!
I am going to use this activity sheet during independent math time. I will have my kinders cut apart the crabs and count by 5's to glue them down in order. The sheet goes up to 50.
This activity sheet helps my kinders keep up their counting skills up to 20. It will also give them more practice remembering what a particular number up to 20 looks like and how it is written. This is a difficult skill for some of my kinders. Some still write numbers in reverse (ex. - instead of 12, they will write 21).
This activity sheet will be used during independent small group time. My kinders will look at the picture, say the name, clap the syllables, and the circle the correct number of syllables in each word. This goes along with the Kindergarten Common Core standards.
If you download any of these activities, I would love for you to leave me a comment. They always put a smile on my face!

A Splishin' and A Splashin' (Freebie Friday)
I love teaching my ocean animals unit so I have been busy creating activities to use with this unit. Here is one activity that I created to use with small groups and as an independent center activity.
This activity sheet has the kinders sort the ocean pictures by the number of syllables in each word. They each get a copy of page 1 and there are 2 sets of pictures on page 2. I used it as an independent activity during my guided reading small group time.
Please leave me a quick comment if you download this freebie. Your comments make me smile!

Easter Egg Fun
I have been working on some Easter activities this weekend and I couldn't wait to share them with you. I created this Easter egg syllable sort to help my kids practice syllables. I also created the recording sheet for my kiddos to use during center time.
I hope you can use these activities! Please leave me a comment if you download them. Your comments always make me smile. Thanks!

Leaping Leprechauns!
St. Patrick's Day is coming soon so I wanted to share a freebie with you.
I printed it on cardstock and laminated it for durability. The kids pick a picture card and clap the syllables. Then they put it under the correct label - 1, 2, or 3 syllables. I have also included a recording sheet to go along with the syllable sorting game.

Loving Valentine's Day!
First let me say a great big THANK YOU! I had a final donation to my Donors Choose project - "Books Within Our Reach" to complete it. I am so excited and can't wait to get our new bookshelf in our reading center!
Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays so I decided to share some more activities with you.
I created this counting sheet to use with my kiddos. I still have quite a few kids that can not count up to 20 objects and some that can count up to 20 but don't know how to write the correct numeral to correspond with the amount counted.
I created this game to have my kinderkids practice sorting words by syllables. They are still having some difficulty with this standard and playing a game always interests them. I printed the game on cardstock and cut apart before laminating the pieces.
If you choose to use any of these activities, please leave me a comment! Thanks!!

Christmas is Coming!
Christmas is one of my favorite times of year so of course I have to incorporate it in my classroom. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas season in your classroom and homes as well!
I created this game to have my kinderkids practice sorting pictures by the syllables in their names. I printed it on cardstock and laminated for durability.
I created a tens frame matching game for my kiddos. They match the numeral to the tens frame with the correct number of dots. I printed the game out, backed it on construction paper and laminated it for durability.
If you choose to use any of these games, please leave me a comment! Thanks!!

Farming Fun
I love teaching about the farm. This year I am using this activity with my kinderkids to practice counting sets of objects up to 15 and identifying the numerals. I printed them on cardstock and laminated for durability.
I created this activity to do during my small group time. My kids need practice with syllables. This activity gives them hands-on practice. I printed it on cardstock and laminated.
