Going Buggy for Reading!

I have been working hard creating new products for my classroom and have just gotten around to posting some of them to my TpT store and TN shop. 

I love using emergent readers in my classroom that my students can read and color themselves. This gives them some ownership of the books. We read these books during our Guided Reading portion of Daily 5 and then they have a chance at another point during the day to color the pictures. Once they have finished coloring their books, they add to them their book baskets to read during the Read to Self or Read to Someone portions of Daily 5. These books seem to mean a lot to my kinders so I have been creating more of these books based on my kinders current reading levels and needs. I created 2 new emergent readers to use next week during my insects theme.

New Printables Pack

I just finished up my May Ready To Go Printables Pack and posted it to my TpT store and TN shops. These are activity sheets that are all ready to be printed and copied to be used in the classroom. Each sheet is aligned to at least 1 Common Core standards.

Eggcellent Easter Unit & Giveaway

I just finished putting the finishing touches on my new Easter unit: Eggcellent Easter. I wanted to finish this unit early so you would have time to use it before Easter since it is so early this year. Each activity in the unit is aligned to at least one Common Core Standard and the standard number is posted on the activity. There are 34 pages in this unit.

Here are some of the things included in this unit:

Bunny Letter Match game - Kinders match the uppercase letters to the lowercase letters.

Spring Syllable Sort game - Kinders clap the syllalbes in each picture. Then they put the egg card under the correct chick so that the pictures are sorted by syllables.

Roll, Add, & Cover gameboard - This is a gameboard I created in color and laminated to have my kinders use in a math center. They roll 2 dice and add them together. Then they cover the sum with an Easter mini-eraser.

Easter Addition Mat & Recording Sheet - This is another board I created in color to have my kinders practice adding two groups together. Then they will record their addition problems on the recording sheet.

Kindergarten Homework Pack

This is my pack of activity sheets for homework. Each activity sheet is in an individual file and covers at least 2 skills. I have the Common Core standards addressed on each sheet listed in a box at the top of the page. You can also use these just as review sheets for morning work or some other time during your day since they have nothing about homework listed on them. Right now there are 11 sheets included in the pack but I am working hard to add more. Friday Freebie: Christmas more/less game (K.CC.6)

This is a more/less game created with the theme of Christmas. My class has been working on the CC standard K.CC.6 comparing two sets and this game has been great to use with my small groups. Each child got a mat and two sticks of 10 Unifix cubes in two different colors (10 of each color). Then we drew a candy cane card first and they put that many Unifix cubes of one color on the top row. Then we drew an ornament card and they put that many Unifix cubes on the bottom row. Then we compared the sets to see which had more and which had less. For example, the candy cane had less than the ornament because the candy cane had 2 and the ornament had 8. To make it even more challenging with my higher level thinkers, I had them tell me how many more one set had than another set.

Math Monday: November Math Journal Prompts

This weekend, I finished creating my November Math Journal Prompts to use with my kinders and uploaded them to TpT and TN. Right now the set only has 12 prompts, but I will be adding more to the set. I have been very sick with a horrible stomach virus shared by one of my kinders so I have been working on them in between the sickness. Math Monday: Math Journals

This is the first year I have used math journals in my kindergarten classroom. I took composition notebooks and begged my dad to cut them in half for me. He just loves that he has a daughter who is a teacher so he did it! This is the final result. I thought they turned out well and he did for lots less than I would have had to pay at a printing store.

These half size composition notebooks are perfect for my kinders. We just started doing the math journal prompts at the beginning of October. My kinders are loving it. They love showing me what they know! Here are some pictures of their work:

I created these prompts based on the standards we are currently teaching and working on. The October Prompts can be purchased for $3.00 in my TpT store and TN shop. 

I am working on the November Math Journal Prompts now and will upload them as soon as they are complete.

I have been working hard to get my Thanksgiving Unit ready for to post in my TpT store and TN shop. I know I am a little early for the holiday but I thought you all might like to be able to plan early. Fall Favorites Linky Party

Fall is in the air! Right now The Schroeder Page is hosting a fall favorites linky party where bloggers can share their favorite fall teaching resources. Here are my favorites that I have created so far:

1) Halloween Fun Unit - $5.00 on TpT & TN
This is my newest unit. I made it to use in my own classroom based on the kindergarten Common Core standards we are currently teaching and assessing. It has language arts and math activities. I am sure many (if not all) of the activities can also be used in first grade.

2) October Math Journal Prompts - $3.00 on TpT & TN
I created these math journal prompts based on the Common Core standards and listed the standards addressed in each prompt at the bottom of the prompt for future reference. I love how these give my students extra practice in the classroom and how I get to see what they are thinking as they solve the prompt. I will be posting a set for November soon. These are aligned to kindergarten CC standards.

3) Making Sets of 10 with Friendly Ghosts - $2.50 on TpT & TN
These tens frames were created with the Math Common Core standard  K.OA.4 in mind but I have been told they can be used to address a first grade CC standard as well. I use ghost erasers to have my kinders complete the tens frames. Then they will complete the addition problem ___+___=10. This is a skill I start working on early on to help my kinders internalize the complements that make 10.

4) Fall Counting Sheet - FREE on TpT
This is great to have the kids practice 1:1 correspondence while counting. This activity sheet can be used in kindergarten or first grade.

Little Friendly Ghosts Tens Frames

I know this is early, but I just couldn't wait to share this activity with you. I created this game last night and thought it was adorable! This making sets of 10 game for Halloween uses the friendly ghosts clipart from Graphics from the Pond. I am going to use the mini ghost erasers from the Target dollar spot to have my students complete the tens frame. This game is on sale until Friday for $2.00 at TpT and TN. After that it will be $2.50.
