Happy New Year 2017! Now It's Back To School From Winter Break!

Happy new year 2017! Yes I have been back at school for 2 weeks but boy have they been busy?! And this week having a full moon and Friday the 13th all rolled into one...can you say EXHAUSTED?!!

I hope you all had a wonderfully relaxing winter break. I know mine went by WAY too fast! I did enjoy every minute of being home with my wonderful family! I know I am super late, but I wanted to share a few pictures with you of Christmas 2016 at our house! So here's a sneak peek into my home life:
We had to bake cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve (and she had to wear her chef's hat!). Thank goodness for Pillsbury refrigerated cookie dough! Of course she had to taste the dough, but don't tell!

Christmas morning! Oh the excitement in my horse-loving girl's eyes! She got a big, toy Appaloosa horse, a small Appaloosa horse, and My Little Pony PJs!

Happy New Year 2017!

I hope you have all had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas/Winter break. We go back to school tomorrow. As I was planning for this week, I found this writing sheet I created a few years ago and I am planning to use it with my 2nd graders to publish in the hall. There is a version for a boy and one for a girl. Feel free to use it as you see fit. It is a forever FREEBIE on TpT. I would absolutely LOVE some sweet feedback on this freebie!

Happy New Year 2016!

Happy New Year to my blogging family! I hope you have had a wonderful and relaxing break. I go back to work on Monday, Jan. 4 so I am making the most of the time I have left off. I am so thankful for this wonderful blogging community that I am a part of. I hope in this new year to get back into the routine of blogging with you all on a more regular basis as I am on this new journey of teaching 2nd grade. Happy new year 2016 to you!

Happy New Year 2015!

Happy New Year 2015! I know I have been MIA during December. I was busy with both school and home life! I know all the other teacher moms out there understand what I'm talking about.

This was our first week back at school and on Monday we talked about the new year and new year's resolutions. I read my students the book Squirrel's New Year's ResolutionI love this book because it explains what a resolution is and how to make one which is perfect with the lower elementary kids like kindergarten and first grade. After we talked about what resolutions are, my students wrote their new resolutions on this writing paper. I know it is too late for you to use it this year, but you are welcome to save it for next year.

Here are some of my kinders' resolutions:
make up my bed.

be a friend.

not cry.
(This is my child who cries EVERY morning so I hope this one actually happens!)

read better.
(This is my child who has a learning disability but has made such great gains this year...I am so proud!!)

be a good student.
(This child has come so far this year. She came in and didn't know any letters or sounds, but look at the progress she has made!! YAH!!)

Hope you are all having a great new year and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please let me know if you download the writing paper and please leave me feedback. Thanks!!

New Year's Resolutions

Last Thursday was our first day back after Christmas break. Since we were only in school 2 days this past week, I decided to teach about the new year. I read the adorable book: Squirrel's New Year's Resolutions. I purchased this book last year through Scholastic Book Clubs and it is great to explain what a resolution is to younger students who may not understand otherwise.

After reading the book, my kinders got a chance to write their own new year's resolutions. I thought they turned out so cute and this was a great chance to see who remembered their letter sounds after the break.
help other people
help my mom clean up
to write better
help my mom clean up

I love to see how they sound out words and I can hear each one of them talking to me as I read their writing.
